Кафедра 1955 жылы шілде айында «Қазақ –химия технологиялық институтының» құрамында «Химия өндірістерінің машиналары мен аппараттары» болып құрылып, Қазақстандағы жоғарғы оқу орындарының ғылыми-педагогикалық жалғыз бөлімі болды. 1961 жылдан кафедра түлектері-механиктер, Республикамыздың құрылыс материалдары өнеркәсібі кәсіпорындарында мамандар қатарын толықтыра бастады. Осы уақыттан бастап кафедра түлектер санын нығайта түсті.
Кафедра дамуы жаңа және қызықты бағытқа бет алды. Бұл бағыттың орын алуы Республикамыздың халық шаруашылығы комплексіндегі елеулі құрылымдық өзгерістермен байланысты болды. Ал кафедра тек құрылыс материалдарды кәсіпорындарында ғана емес, сондай-ақ химия технологияларының аппараттары бойынша мамандандырылды.
Кафедраның лабораториясы өнеркәсәптік, жартылай өнеркәсәптік және лабораториялық өлшемдегі жабдықтармен және бақылау-өлшеу құрылғыларыменен жабдықталған.
